What's included in AVION's running rehab program?

FIND IT.

Running analysis. Your first visit includes an AI Running Analysis of how your feet, knees, and hips move while you run. We also test strength, mobility, and balance on each leg, and review your training: weekly miles, pace, shoes, and recent changes. Any chronic conditions that may be pathological, we use diagnostic ultraosund to find what others may have missed.

FIX IT.

Treat the injury. Hands-on treatment to calm pain and let the tissue heal, which may include:

  • Manual therapy

  • Ultrasound Guided Dry Needling — AVION is the first and only clinic in Fort Lauderdale using live ultrasound guidance

  • Focused shockwave therapy for stubborn tendon and heel pain

  • Blood Flow Restriction training to keep your legs strong while you cut back on running

FORTIFY IT.

Rebuild and return. A running-specific strength program for your hips, calves, and feet, changes to your running mechanics where they matter, and a step-by-step return-to-run plan that builds your mileage back without a setback. Where possible, we keep you running during rehab by adjusting distance, pace, or terrain rather than making you stop completely.

Who it's for, FAQ, and closing

Q: Who is running rehab for?

  • Runners with an injury that keeps coming back

  • Runners training for a race who can't afford weeks off

  • Runners coming back after surgery, a stress fracture, or time away

  • New runners who want to build mileage without getting hurt

  • Triathletes and runners who also lift or cross-train

Q: Who treats runners at AVION?

Your care is 1-on-1 with our team of Doctors of Physical Therapy and Board Certified Athletic Trainers:

  • Andrew Geil, LAT, ATC, SSC, Cert. DN — Director of Sports Rehab

  • Dr. Nicole Lescano, PT, DPT, Cert. DN, BRM, TPI — Clinic Operations Manager

  • Dr. Brandon Berland, PT, DPT, CSCS, ADN-Cert, SMT-1

Q: How long is the first visit?

First visit is an evaluation and treatment that is 60 minutes long or 90 minutes if you choose our signature option. You'll receive a full plan of care, home exercise program, and a clear path to recovery. We include 15-20 minutes of treatment at the end so your recovery starts on day 1.

Q: How long until I can run again?

It depends on the injury and how long you've had it. Plans follow the stages of healing in 3-, 6-, or 9-week programs, and many runners keep running in some form throughout.

Q: When should I see a doctor first?

See a doctor if you have pain in one spot on a bone that hurts to press, pain that continues at rest or at night, or swelling you can't explain. These can be signs of a stress fracture. Get emergency care for calf pain, swelling, or warmth in the leg, which can be signs of a blood clot.

Q: Do I have to stop running?

A: Absolutely not! In most cases we work around injuries by modifying your training. Stopping is one of the worst things to do as it will detrain your body and when its time to start running again it can lead to a greater likilihood of injury.

Q: What should I bring to my running evaluation?

Your running shoes, clothes you can run in, and your recent training log or watch data

Q: Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist for a running injury in Fort Lauderdale?

A: Nope! We are direct access which means we can see you directly without a script for 30 days. Most Conditions are resolved within that time frame due to our system and process, but every patient and every case is different. That's why we tailor an individualized plan of care to address your specific needs.
