We work with active adults across Fort Lauderdale and South Florida who want to get back to training, work, and life without relying on pain medication.
Low back pain can feel like a dull ache that settles in after sitting, a sharp catch when you bend or lift, or stiffness that makes the first steps of the morning slow.
At AVION Sports Rehab in Fort Lauderdale, we find the source of your back pain, treat it with hands-on physical therapy and advanced options like Ultrasound Guided Dry Needling, shockwave, and photobiomodulation and rebuild strength to keep it from coming back.

What causes low back pain?
Most low back pain in active adults comes from the muscles, joints, and connective tissue around the spine, not from a single serious injury. Common causes we see include:

-
Long hours of sitting at a desk or in the car
-
Lifting, bending, or twisting under load
-
Muscle knots and tight, guarded muscles
-
Weak core and hip muscles that leave the back doing too much
-
A sudden jump in training volume or a new sport
How does AVION treat low back pain?

FIND IT.
A full evaluation 60-90 minutes of how you move, where the pain comes from, and what makes it better or worse.
FIX IT.
Hands-on treatment to calm pain and restore movement. Depending on your evaluation, this may include:

-
Manual therapy: Sports massage, joint manipulation, cupping, active release techniques
-
Ultrasound Guided Dry Needling: AVION is the first and only clinic in Fort Lauderdale using live ultrasound guidance
-
Focused shockwave therapy for stubborn muscle knots and long standing pain, usually 3–5 sessions spaced one week apart
-
Red light therapy (photobiomodulation)
FORTIFY IT.
A progressive strength program for your core, hips, and back so the pain doesn't return when you get back to full activity.
We set your goals together at the first visit, whether that's sitting through a workday, deadlifting again, or getting through 18 holes.

When should I see a doctor instead?
Some back pain needs a physician first. See a doctor or go to the emergency room if your back pain comes with:

- Loss of bladder or bowel control
-
Numbness in the groin or inner thighs
-
Leg weakness that is getting worse
-
Fever, or unexplained weight loss
-
Pain after a fall, car accident, or other major trauma
-
A history of cancer

If we find signs like these during your evaluation, we'll refer you to the right physician.
Q: Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist for back pain in Fort Lauderdale?
A: Nope! We are direct access which mean we can see you directly without a script for 30 days. Most Conditions are resolved within that time from due to our system and process.
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: We have the ability to courtesy bill. What that means is if you have a PPO plan we can bill your insurance. However, coverage depends on your policy and deductible which we have no control over. In our experience, most active adults have large deductibles, which means you'll be paying out of pocket regardless of where you go. So might as well get the best.
Q: How long is the first visit?
A: First visit is a evaluation and treatment that is 60 minutes long or 90 minutes if you choose our signature option. You'll receive a full plan of care, home exercise program, and a clear path to recovery. We include 15-20 minutes of treatment at the end so your recovery starts on day 1.
Q: Is dry needling safe for the low back?
A: Dry needling is one of the safest modalities to use. Only exception is pregnancy.
Q: Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Most patients feel strong pressure and some discomfort during treatment, which eases as sessions go on. We start at a low intensity and adjust to what you can tolerate.
Q: Can I keep working out while I'm in treatment?
Absolutely! In fact we encourage it! We will give you recommendations of what to avoid temporarily, modify, and overcome so you can get back to training pain free.
